Real Time Trader – East or West

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Trades physical and financial power in the Eastern or Western Interconnect with strong focus on Physical markets
  • Identify availability and secure transmission service for electric transactions through Open Access Same-time Information Systems (OASIS). Uses knowledge of the transmission grid to create arbitrage opportunities. Purchases forward transmission positions on constrained paths when appropriate.
  • Analyzes energy and transmission alternatives to optimize profits and ensure delivery.
  • Tagging of energy transactions on OATI
  • Accurately record purchase and sale transactions on appropriate blotters or trade tickets and ensure that all necessary transaction details are entered into Altop’s deal capture system.
  • Work with Bilateral counterparties to buy power to be served to pools when opportunities exist
  • Ability to work Shift and Support additional coverage requirements which may include team vacation, sickness, or system emergency responses.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ Years experience in power trading, power system operations, derivatives, marketing or bulk power system management. Experience in ISONE, NYISO, PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, WECC, or CAISO expected.
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, Mathematics, Finance, Engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven record in power trading with physical/financial power dynamics with characteristics of hydro, coal, wind, solar and gas fired generation.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting practices used for physical trades.
  • Knowledge of different transmission types available for purchases and strong knowledge of WebTag and OASIS.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills; strong problem solving, analytical and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and mitigate risks while ensuring compliance with prescribed parameters.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, multi-tasking, team environment.
